Hi guys, I've got a problem with my dual boot setup: I've installed Windows 8, selected an empty partition, booted it, everything peachy. The only surprising thing was that driver letters where switched: my windows 7 install and data was now in D: drive and windows 8 install appropiated C: letter drive without consulting me. This became a problem came when I tried to boot windows 7 and an annoying startup repair assistant showed up. Tried autorepair but no luck. [to be honest, I let it unattended and don't know what happened, don't even know if it finished since the battery died, but it lasts at least 2 hours, and that should be enough, right?] Then read somewhere changing active partition to win7 could help. Bad idea: now no

How to change system drive letter in Windows 8 RTM?
            location: 8forums.com - date: August 18, 2012
I've installed Windows 8 starting the installer from Windows 8 RP and I've just noticed that it picked up the drive letters from the old system. Now my system drive is Y instead of C , because in the old system that partition was Y. If I try to change the drive letter in the Drive Management it gives an error. Does anyone know how to change system drive letter in Windows 8 RTM?

This might have been covered earlier, but I guess a fresh post would be in order as many of you have recently acquired a beta product key and the latest ISO image of Windows 7. This guide is good if you want to install to a netbook or laptop that doesn't have a CD-ROM or if you'd like to get a speedier install on your desktop PC See also: USB Windows 7 Installation Key Drive - Create 1. Download the latest ISO image of Windows 7 2. Use MagicISO or any other SW that can read and extract the contents of the ISO. 3. Extract all the files to a folder of your choice ( ex. C:\Windows 7). If you use MagicISO you'd want to right click on the ISO file and then select "Extract to..." 4. attach a USB stick of at least 4 GB size 5. Select

On setup of Windows 7 Backup to network drive, how to avoid userid and password?

I have Windows 7 x64 Pro on one PC of my 2-computer home network. I backup my files to a 1-GB network drive using obsolescent software. I would like to use Windows backup in the same way, but I get stuck at the first stage of backup: "what are my userid and password?". I do not need to use either as both computers are single-user and log-on automatically. How can I persuade W7 Backup to accept that they are not needed? Alternatively how can I, having administrator status, either: check out whether there is an existing id/password?if necessary, set up a new id/password without prejudicing my current automatic logon?

Would it be possible to install Windows 7 x64 Ultimate onto my 32GB USB Flash Drive as a portable OS on the go? I'm not talking about creating a Windows 7 Installation USB Flash Drive as an alternative to a DVD Installation, I'm talking about being able to have Windows 7 x64 Ultimate OS on a USB drive. I'm asking because I need to be able to have another Windows OS on a separate drive in order for me to be able to Secure Erase my OCZ RevoDrive PCI-E SSD using OCZ Toolbox.

I performed a clean reinstall of XP on my friend's computer, but Windows was installed on drive D instead of C. Is it possible to rename D to C, and if so how,and how would I go about moving system files from D to C? I realise the existing drive letters can be lived with, but I do all the "maintenance" on the computer, and just find having the OS on drive D confusing, having got so used to it being on C. Advice would be appreciated. Thanks and regards, Roy
